5/4

I am updating the blog today since tomorrow afternoon will be crazy with Field Day. PLEASE READ ALL OF THE BLOG CAREFULLY.

Field Day:

Field day is this Friday! This is a fun opportunity for students to make some cool memories! Field day is a privilege for students who make wise and respectful choices in the classroom. If students cannot make wise choices, then they will sit out for part or all of field day.

Our field day is from 12:55-3:20.

Please have your student wear their green Landmark shirt, athletic bottoms, and closed toed shoes. Students can bring their own hat if they would like to wear it outside. If you want to have your student wear sunscreen, they will need to pack the liquid/lotion kind and will be required to apply it themselves. I am not allowed to help students apply sunscreen.
There are several stations/activities that include water and have the potential to get wet. Students may choose to participate or not. If they get wet, students may not change clothes until the end of field day. You can pack extra clothes or a small towel to stay in the classroom
At the end of field day, students will need to quickly return to the classroom and grab their backpacks and computers and other items. There will not be much time to change clothes so I suggest sending a small towel and change at home or at RMK. You can pick them up from the driveline, or the north doors like normal. I will send RMK as normal. You are more than welcome to come.
Friday's Backpack list:
Water bottle with name * water bottles will travel with students
2 snacks
Charged Chromebook
Small towel to dry off with
Good attitude ๐Ÿ˜
Listening ears๐Ÿ˜‹
Lotion sunscreen *if wanted
Hat *if wanted
Lunch* if your student is cold lunch, hot lunch is still available
Change of clothes * if wanted but may not have time to change at school

Recess Ball expectations: Students can bring balls to take out to recess but recently several students have struggled maintaining the ball expectations. Students will keep it in the class cart while in the building. Students who brought the ball will carry it down the hallway without bouncing/ throwing/ kicking it in the school building. 1/20

 Hello Families!

*** I will not be at school on Monday (1/23). There will be a substitute teacher who will keep our classroom routine and schedule. I expect all students to continue to meet school expectations and be role models for each other. I also expect that they will be kind and respectful to the sub and to each other.

Important dates:

  • Feb. 3: Early Release at 1:30pm
  • Feb. 10th: 100th day celebration *more info to come next week
  • Feb. 14th: Valentine's day *more info to come next week
  • Feb. 16th, 17th, 20th NO SCHOOL
Parent/Teacher Conferences are going to occur in early February. I haven't made my schedule yet but will send it out soon!

Academics:
Phonics: We will be starting boss R teams. Students will start with -ar. Like in the word start, tar, barn, etc.

Reading Comprehension: We will be looking at how characters change as the story goes on. This could be that the character gains confidence, or uses perseverance. It could be a physical change as well.

Writing: Students will be writing a story with a big focus on problem. Problems drive the characters in the story to take actions. We will also be focusing on nouns and verbs next week in our grammar lessons. A noun is a person, place, or thing. A verb is an action word like jump, running, sitting, etc.

Math: We are making the connection between comparing number and place value. Again we can visually represent a number with sticks and cubes. The number 16 has one stick and six cubes, while the number 61 has six sticks and 1 cube. Students will continue to work on adding and subtracting with 25 and counting to 120.

Social Studies: We will be exploring different climates and how those climates effect the people and animals. For example, in a dessert climate animals live underground and hunt at night to avoid the heat of the day.

 Welcome back!

**Leadership Role Applications: These are coming home and are due on January 18th. Please read through these roles carefully. Students need to fill out the application side in their own handwriting. Students may not get their desired job but they will have a job.

Important Dates:

  • January 16th: MLK Day/ NO SCHOOL
  • January 20th: Awards Ceremony 9:45am
  • January 25th: Literacy Night 5pm
  • February 3rd: Early Release @ 1:30pm
  • February 16th-20 NO SCHOOL
Parent/Teacher conferences are held in early February. I will work on my schedule and send it out as soon as possible! Just want it on everyone's radar.

Academics:

Phonics: We will be exploring the long u spellings next week. These are ew and ue. Examples of these would be few and clue.

Comprehension: We will learn about character's feelings. This is a fun topic to talk about because students identify the character's feelings and often make a connection to the character's actions and thoughts.

Writing: We are working together to write a creative story with a focus on the problem. Problems often drive the characters into actions. I look forward to seeing how student's writing develop.

Math: We are going to start looking at place value and comparing numbers. To work on this students have been taught how to draw or represent numbers. The number 23 would have 2 sticks and 3 single cubes. The sticks represent the tens place, while the single cubes represent the ones place.

Social Studies: Students will learn about different land and water features. We will look at some familiar features like mountains but also discuss ones we may not be as familiar with like peninsulas.
