Hello families!
Lots of important things so please read CAREFULLY!
ABC Countdown:
At the end of the year 1st grade does a countdown to the end of the year. This starts on April 18th! Below is the days and the themes. To make it extra special we have included some fun days that will need some donations or parent volunteers. Please sign up if you are able to contribute. Be sure to read carefully on the sign up as to when to deliver the items. If you sign up please be sure to set a reminder for yourself to ensure you bring it on the assigned day!
Somedays will include things that students can bring or wear. These are optional days. If student items are forgotten at home please do NOT drop them off in the office as they are not required for learning.
A flyer of dates and themes will be sent home today!
1st Grade Assembly:
On April 21st 1st grade will be leading the Compassion Assembly! HERE is the YouTube link to our compassion song. Please have your student practice at home. Also students can wear athletic gear!
Field trip: Permission slips and money was due today. I will email to confirm who are the chaperones for the trip net week.
Field trips are a privilege and are used to extend our learning in a fun new environment. Students who receive 2 or more behavior emails before going on the field trip will not be able to attend. This is to encourage respectful and productive behavior in class and on the field trip. This will start from April 17th till our field trip on May 1st.
Students will need a SACK LUNCH on May 1st, which means all parts of the lunch (including the container) is able to be thrown away. My suggestion would be to pack it in a clear gallon sized bag and label ALL parts of the bag, lunch parts, and disposable water bottle. Please also check the weather and dress your student appropriately for the weather that day. Students will be responsible for all their personal items.

Academics:
Phonics: We will be focused on Long e spellings -y, -ey, end ie. Y and ey both say the long e sound at the end of a two syllable (or more). For example, happy and monkey. The ie spelling comes in the middle of the word, like field or chief.
Comprehension: Students will work on comparing and contrasting characters' mental state and traits. We look at characters as individuals to be able to describe them but then compare them to see how they differ from others in the text.
Writing: We are going to work on narratives and really focus on setting and characters. We will also do a quick study of commas and how they are used.
Math: We will be really focused on adding and subtracting within 20.
Social Studies: We will be reading books about people in different places and talk about how their communities and differences make them special and compare them to our school community.
