- Feb. 10th: 100th day celebration *more info to come next week
- Feb. 14th: Valentine's day *more info to come next week
- Feb. 16th, 17th, 20th NO SCHOOL
Parent/Teacher Conferences are going to occur in early February. I haven't made my schedule yet but will send it out soon!
Academics:
Phonics: We will be starting boss R teams. Students will start with -ar. Like in the word start, tar, barn, etc.
Reading Comprehension: We will be looking at how characters change as the story goes on. This could be that the character gains confidence, or uses perseverance. It could be a physical change as well.
Writing: Students will be writing a story with a big focus on problem. Problems drive the characters in the story to take actions. We will also be focusing on nouns and verbs next week in our grammar lessons. A noun is a person, place, or thing. A verb is an action word like jump, running, sitting, etc.
Math: We are making the connection between comparing number and place value. Again we can visually represent a number with sticks and cubes. The number 16 has one stick and six cubes, while the number 61 has six sticks and 1 cube. Students will continue to work on adding and subtracting with 25 and counting to 120.
Social Studies: We will be exploring different climates and how those climates effect the people and animals. For example, in a dessert climate animals live underground and hunt at night to avoid the heat of the day.
