Hello families!
Reminders:
March 2nd: Spring Pictures, Uniforms only!
Students need to be charging their computers at home EACH night. I have had several student computers die during the school day this week.
Students should bring a water bottle each day!
Phonics: This week we looked at suffix -ed and next week we will explore other suffixes (-er, -s, -es, and -ing) Suffixes come at the end of a base word. For example 'floating,' the base word is float and the suffix is -ing.
Comprehension: We are going to start looking at non fiction texts again. The main focus next week will be cause and effect. Effect is what happened and the cause is why it happened. It is important for students to have a clear understanding of what effect and cause mean. You can practice this at home by calling attentions to actions in real life or in texts. I wear a coat (effect) because it is chilly outside (cause).
Math: We are going to continue our geometry unit. The students have explored various 2D and 3D shapes. The students will look at dividing shapes into halves and fourths. This will be a brief look into fractions. A great way to practice this at home would be folding towels 😆. "Fold the towels in half."
Social studies: We are going to look at the effects of weather and climate on our communities. Climate and weather can sometimes dictate what communities can do. For example a city with heavy snow fall each year would purchase a snow plow, while a city with minimal snow fall would spend money on something else. This ties in really well with our cause and effect unit in reading.
