I cannot believe it is Thanksgiving break already! I am not sending home homework over the break, please enjoy your family time. I will send a communication before we come back to school on 12/2/19. Book It forms will be due back on the 2nd as well.
Thank you so much for investing so much into your kids. I love how much they have learned and grown this year. I am blessed to have such a caring and loving group of students. I want to say thank to all the families that have brought up these amazing little humans!
Have an awesome Thanksgiving break!

Nov. 15
Hello families,
I was not at the school today so if your student forgot to return their Reading homework I will collect it on Monday. There is no Math homework today.
Phonics: We will be looking at the -all chunk and -al. For some reason these can be confusing for some kids so please review at home. Chunk -all would come in words like ball and tall. The -al chunk would come in words like pal and salt.
Comprehension: We will be exploring non-fiction text features. These features include table of contents, glossary, index, charts, etc. We will be looking at what kinds of information they give us. Please don't forget to be reading this week. Please check out Readworks.org this week, it is jam packed with non-fiction texts and articles.
Book-It forms will be due when we get back from break.
Math: We will be looking at equivalent equations. For example 4+4= 7+1. These are equivalent fractions because they equal 8 on both sides. As we go on we may see 4+4= 7+___. This requires a higher order of thinking so please be reviewing basic math addition skills.
Science: We are still working on our sound and light unit. We are still in sound currently but will be making the switch to light soon. This has been a fun and loud unit for the students. I think we have some future drummers in our class.
Thanksgiving party:
Thanksgiving Party signup
Our Thanksgiving Party will be on 11/22 from 2-3pm. We will have a variety of fall centers.
Students will travel around to the fun centers. Families are invited to join us from 2-3pm. Activities are for our classroom students. Volunteers need to be here at 1:45pm. If you sign up to bring supplies please drop them off by the morning of 11/22 or SOONER.
If you would like to bring a snack to share with the whole class please individually wrap them (28 students)! We will not have a designated time to share the treats and this will allow us to easily take them home.
I am also in the hunt for fall prizes for our party! Send them in if you have some! Thank you for helping us make this season AWESOME.

Nov. 8th
Hello families!
Tis the season of sniffles and stomach bugs. Please email me if you are keeping your child home due to sickness. I can then relay it our autoimmune compromised family! We want to keep everyone healthy!
Phonics: We are moving into trigraphs. Trigraphs are three letters that make one sound. They are -tch and -dge. The usually come at the ends of words like fudge or itch. We will also be reviewing digraphs (ch, sh, ck, th, and wh).
Comprehension: Next week we will be looking at the difference between facts and opinion. Facts can be proven and opinions what we think or feel. This is a fun thing to teach because they start to be aware that some people have different opinions than them.
Math: We will be working on place value. We will be looking teen number and looking a tens (10, 20, 30, etc). This should help students with their number sense. Like always we will also be working on addition and subtraction.
Science: We will be working on our sound and light unit. We have exploring different drums and how their sounds are different.
Moral Focus: This month's focus is gratitude. I gave our kids a challenge of showing gratitude towards others. Please continue this challenge at home!

Nov. 1st
Can you believe it is November 1st already?! This school year has flown by!
Blast: We will be working on digraph ck and review our previous digraphs as well. I am trying to get access to our digraph videos that our curriculum uses but they have not gotten back to me yet.
Comprehension: Next week we will be looking at who the narrator is in certain stories. Sometimes this can be hard to identify so I will give them lots of support in this area.

- Reading Homework is coming home today. It is over problem and solution again. This is to make sure they truly understand the concept. If you are reading chapter books you can do a box per chapter.
- There are a lot of awesome online resources if you need more books. Youtube, epic, Readworks.org, Storyline Online, etc.
- I will be sending home November Book-it forms. Again this is optional. You can fill it out on top of your regular reading logs and turn it in on the last day of the month for a free personal pizza from Pizza Hut. I will hopefully send out the code for my October participants today but I am waiting for them to mail them to me! Please be patient!
Math: We are still working on addition and subtraction strategies! First grade is all about strategies! Something that could help your student would be to practice subtizing some more!
- Go to Youtube and search for subitizing with Jack Hartmann. He has a lot of goofy videos that focus on subtizing.
- Math Homework is coming home tonight and will be due back Monday. This one is super simple so everyone should be able to turn it in! ( pages 39 and 40)
- Tuesday (pages 41 and 42) and will be due back Wednesday.
- Next Friday (pages 43 and 44) will be due the following Monday.
Social studies: Due to snow related delays/early releases we will be finishing up our Civics unit next week and move to our Science unit on sound and light!
Lots of holidays are about to start! I will send more info about our upcoming events at a later date. I like to mention as many holidays as I can but often are not aware of the ones my students celebrate. If you would like to let me know of any celebrations or upcoming holidays that your family take part in that would be so helpful.
