Next week!

Aug. 30th

Next week we DO NOT have school on Monday or Tuesday!

With this condensed week we will be crammed for time so be sure your student is here and ready to learn!

Homework: Don't forget to write your student back in their Friday Folder Letter Journal.
  • Reading: I sending home the next Reading Log. Students need to write the title of a book and draw something they notice about the illustrations. This will be due NEXT FRIDAY.
  • Math: Math homework is coming home today, please complete pages 3 and 4. This will be due on WEDNESDAY. I will send Math homework on this coming Thursday as well.
Moral Focus/ Habit: We are still focused on being proactive and will be looking at what respect looks like in the classroom and throughout the school.

Phonics: We will be working on cvc words and reviewing our letter sounds. It is important we have a good understanding of this.

Read aloud/ comprehension: We will be looking at visualizing while reading. This is helpful because it shows me that they are listening and understand what is being read to them. We will also be working on retelling skills for the next two weeks.

Writing: We will continue to work on our handwriting and looking at different types of nouns.

Math: We will work on how to subitize (this means how to recognize numbers quickly).
I have attached a quick goofy video on this topic. Please use parent consent when viewing.

Social studies: We will be diving into geography! We will be looking at different land forms and bodies of water, and different communities.

Next week in First Grade!

Aug. 23

Read aloud/Comprehension:
We will be looking at narratives and making predictions about those stories.
  • A prediction is a good guess about what is happening in the story. It is ok if we are wrong.  😏
  • Making predictions helps readers to know what might come next in the story.
Phonics:
We will be working on short vowel sounds and consonants again. It is important that we get a solid foundation before moving on.

Writing: Still working on handwriting! We will also be looking at how to create a simple sentence. There are four parts. You can start reviewing at home! C.O.P.S.
  • C stands for capital letter at the beginning of each sentence!!!
  • O stands for organization. This is letter formation and finger spaces!
  • P stands for punctuation. We will discuss which is appropriate for different types of sentences/
  • S is for spelling. As long as the sounds are there its ok! Kat and Cat are both acceptable because they have the correct sounds
We will be working on our Friday Journals today. This is something new I am doing this year. Students will write about what happened this week in school on one page and it would be great if you could respond to them on the back side of that page. The journal will come home tonight and will need to be returned on Monday with a family member's response. This will promote good communication between you and your child.

Math:
We will be exploring fact families up to ten. These are two numbers added together to equal 10. Example 8+2=10 and 2+8=10. Homework will come home on Tuesday and Friday. Math homework is due back the next school day!

Social studies: We will be focusing on the importance of leaders in and around our school. This great for community building in our classroom.

HOMEWORK! In purple folders is our READING HOMEWORK. I am sending it home today but it will be due next FRIDAY. It has the dates and instructions on it. You may read or your student may read but your student must fill out the paper piece. Be helpful but do not do it for them.
Below I have attached two books from Youtube. If you would like to use them for homework you can! I have no idea what kind of ads might pop up so I encourage parent consent!

Wow! We had an awesome first week! We worked a lot on procedures and routines. They did great!

I will send out a blog post every Friday. This is so I can recap the weeks events and communicate the next week's plans and events. I will try and email you that I updated the blog but please be checking regularly on your own as well.

"Homework" this weekend will be memorizing their lunch numbers. This is good for them to know even if they bring their lunch everyday. I will discuss our typical homework schedule and routines at the Curriculum night.

Curriculum Night is August 20th from 5:30- 6:30 pm. You will start in the gym for a few announcements and then come to the room. I BEG that you be there! I will be talking about homework, different ways of communication, student work, and how to navigate educational jargon. All of these are important.

Next week!

Moral focus/ Leader in Me!: We will be talking about responsibility and habit 1 which is being proactive, not reactive. These go hand in hand! We want our students to take of their things but also take care of themselves.

Phonics: We will be review consonants and short vowels. I am attaching the link for some videos on short vowels sounds. This would be great to review before Monday.
Short A review
Short E review
Short I review
Short O review
Short U review

Read aloud/ Comprehension:
Students will be able to share their favorite part of a book in COMPLETE sentences. This will be assessed verbally.

Writing: We will be taking time and reviewing how to appropraitely form letters.

Math: We will be working on counting up to 120 different ways. We will also be exploring shapes.

Social Studies: We will be looking at our school community and work on understanding our role as leaders.

Hello families!

School is almost here and I have a few things for you to review before the first day.

Our school doors open at 7:45, students will report to the gym and sit in our class line till 8:00. There will be staff members to help guide and supervise students. At 8:00 I will pick students up and walk to class. If you would like to walk your student in the first day you will have to check in at the office. Please hug and go once you arrive at our classroom door. It is important for a quick start to our day.

Our classroom schedule:

8:25- 9:40 Reading
9:40-9:55 Recess

If you have not filled out the survey monkey questionnaire please go back to the first blog post and fill it out. It only takes 3 minutes. THIS IS IMPORTANT.

Please review how your student is getting home the first day of school! This will be very helpful for all if your student knows where to go.

We do have two snack times. Please pack HEALTHY snacks. I suggest that you pack them in a consistent and easy place to access. If your student brings their lunch, I suggest you have a different location for their snacks other than their lunch box.

If your student is buying lunch I will have their lunch number ready for them. If they are buying and are new we will receive their lunch numbers by the end of the first week. I will provide information to the lunch staff to get them in the system. They will receive lunch with or without a number.

Here is a fun bedtime story before the first day! Enjoy!
