 Hello families!

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.

Parent Actions:

Upcoming Field Trip: Each year 1st grade and Kindergarten do a joint field trip to Denver Zoo. This year we will be going on May 1st. The field trip permission slip came home today and is due back with a 7 dollar check made out to Landmark Academy, on April 14th. I will need chaperones, on the permission slip form please indicate if you would like to be a chaperone (do not email). Chaperones will need to arrive to school, carry student lunches, monitor on the bus, and guide students around the zoo safely. Chaperones must ride the bus and cannot bring siblings. I will email and confirm if you are a chaperone. If you are interested in just meeting us at the zoo, please fill out this HERE.

Field trips are a privilege and are used to extend our learning in a fun new environment. Students who receive 2 or more behavior emails before going on the field trip will not be able to attend. This is to encourage respectful and productive behavior in class and on the field trip. This will start from April 17th till our field trip on May 1st.

 Hello families!

Don't forget to be working on your planet project outlined in the March homework!

Next week is the book fair! We will be going on Thursday as a class. Please click THIS LINK to let me know if you plan on letting your student shop. Talk about what they can get if you give them money to spend.

Recess Ball expectations: Students can bring balls to take out to recess but recently several students have struggled maintaining the ball expectations. Students will keep it in the class cart while in the building. Students who brought the ball will carry it down the hallway without bouncing/ throwing/ kicking it in the school building. At recess the owner of the ball must ask a teacher for permission to go get the ball beyond the fence if it goes over before retrieving it. When the whistle blows all play must stop and the owner must carry it to the line immediately.

Upcoming Dates:

Check out the Landmark Lead every week for more dates and news about the school!

March 10-11 Willy Wonka Performances

March 20-24: SPRING BREAK

March 31: March homework and Planet Project due!

April 10th: No school

April 27th : Art show!

Academics:

Phonics: We will be focusing on aw and au. Both say awww (like what you say to a cute baby)! For example we have the word 'cause' and the word 'law'.

Comprehension: We will be looking at cause and effect through stories about American leaders. We will have to connect events that occur at the beginning of a person's story and see how it effects them throughout the rest of the text.

Writing: We will continue to develop our opinion pieces and also work on identifying subject (what the sentence is about) and the verb (what it is doing). We worked hard in math. 'We' is the subject, and 'worked' is the verb.

Math: We wrapped up our math testing this week and will be starting our geometry unit! This is personally my favorite and usually the student's favorite! We will talk about 2D shapes attributes and then go into 3D attributes!

Science: We will wrap up our space unit next week! The students love space and they are so curious about it!  Here is a fun website that students can get on to extend the learning at home!https://www.nasa.gov/kidsclub/index.html

 Hello!

Few quick things:

Book Fair will be March 14-17 at school! I will sign up a time for our class to visit and shop. IF you plan on sending your student with money please fill out this FORM !

Be sure to read through all the March homework! There is the Planet Project listed on the homework and has a flyer attached right after the month overview. Please do not wait till the last minute on this project. It covers a lot of information and students will want to create something amazing. Each project needs a visual model, listed on the flyer it says students can paint, draw, or print a picture of their planet. I have also seen students make 3D models as well. I would love for students to label their model as well. I look forward to see all the projects!

Important Dates:

*Be sure to check out The Lead, sent from Jenna Reeves, to get school wide details and events!

March 10th: Half Day
