12/16

Hello!

Parent Action Items:

  1. Email Mrs. Crockett any up coming absences. This could be for doctor's appointments, planned family visits, or travel. It is a busy time of life, just keep me in the loop!
  2. Please have a conversation with your students about respectful behavior and expectations for school.
Winter Party:
Our winter party will be on Thursday Dec 22nd. We will be 'travelling' to different countries around the world. We will be visiting Mexico, Sweden, and Germany. This party will align with our social studies unit and standards. We will look at their traditions and ways of celebrating holidays. Upon your
student's arrival to a new country they will receive a stamp in their passport and then complete a fun activity. In order to make this even more fun and have some extra hands our book buddies have asked to help. We will need several supplies to make this magical for our students. Click HERE to donate items and supplies.

Parties are a privilege and are used to extend our learning in a fun way. Students who receive 2 or more blue sheets or parent contacts before party will not be able to attend. This is to encourage respectful and productive behavior in class. This will start from December 12 till our party on December 22nd. This is the same rule for our 8th grade book buddies.

This is a half day, so pick up will be at 11:30 am. There will be no lunch provided. This will be a cleaning/extra recess/fun movie day. Academics:

Phonics: Students will learn about vowel teams that make the long e sound. Vowel teams are two vowels that sit together that make one long vowel sound. For example ee and ea in the words sleep and heat.

Reading: We will continue to identify main idea of a story. We will also look at what key details are. Student have enjoy reading about all sorts of schools around the world and comparing to our school. This also aligns perfectly with our upcoming winter party and social studies unit.

Writing: Our class will wrap up its unit on opinion writing this week. They have done a wonderful job!

Math: I will be pulling students one at a time to start winter testing. This is a check to see which areas your student has mastered and where they need more instruction or support in. Please make sure your student has a charged computer. Students who are not testing with me will be on a math app to reinforce previously taught lessons but also to help keep the noise down to make it a welcoming testing environment. Please check with your students about their headphones.

Social Studies: We will be exploring different countries this week. Students will look at what kind of celebration and traditions these countries have. We will compare them to our families traditions!
