Science: Next week we will build upon our engineer knowledge. Students will participate in a technologies scavenger hunt. Then we will start planning out our thoughts and ideas on how to develop a better back pack. Students will plan, design, create (color), and label their improved backpacks.

End of First Week!

We made it! Wow, that was a great first week! This class is the SWEETEST. Thank you for sharing your student with me. This year is starting off amazing.

Students have transitioned really well back into school even with all the Covid precautions. Your students have done great with their masks and hand washing.

Few things:

  • Make sure to pack snacks and water bottles. Our water fountains are out of service.
  • Be sure your students masks cover both their mouth and nostrils. You can use rubber bands to tighten the straps are around the ears.
  • The amount of hand sanitizer we use through out the day can start to dry your hands out so be sure to lotion before and after school.
Next week:

Phonics: We are going to start with a heavy review of short vowel sounds and letter sounds. If you could practice identifying letters and sounds at home, that would be helpful.

Reading Comprehension: We are going to start off reviewing author and illustrator while enforcing speaking and listening skills. We want students to be able to answer questions verbally in complete sentences.

Writing: We are going to focus on handwriting to start. We will be focusing on letter formation of each letter.

Math: We will be starting with counting by 1s, 2s, and 5s. I will introduce the students to our interactive math centers. In the first few centers students will explore how different math manipulatives will help them solve problems in the future.

Science: This year we will be starting off with our engineering unit. The class will look at different types of technologies like inclines, the wheel, hinges, etc. They will explore their purpose and discuss how we use them.

Purple folder: To help eliminate personal papers touching others I have asked your student to put all their completed work in the their Purple Excellence folders. To grade these papers I will collect their folder and grade what I need to. I will sanitize my hands before and after and will also wipe down each folder before I return them to your student. The folders will come home periodically. Please remove all papers from the folder and keep them at home. I will try and write any feedback directly on the worksheets.

I hope everyone has a restful and fun weekend! Stay awesome!
