Thank you for coming to our awards ceremony! I am so proud of everyone!

Phonics: We will be looking at chunk -ing, and r-controlled vowel /or/. We will be reviewing two syllable words with closed and open syllables! It is important to be looking at the rapid word charts, it helps with fluency!

Comprehension: Character Traits! We will be looking at the different traits characters have and how that can help or hinder them throughout the story! I will sending home our homework (remember the dates are wrong!) It will be next Friday.

Math: We will continue our geometry unit! They are having a blast! Homework will be coming home on Tuesday (75-76) and next Friday (77-78).

Science: We will continuing our space systems unit. MOON JOURNALS ARE DUE ON MONDAY! Check previous posts for the websites to catch up.

Parent/Teacher Conferences: Please sign up for conferences, reminder only one conference per student. Parent/Teacher Conf.

February 13th!
It is a half day! We will also be celebrating Valentines Day! Your student can create a valentines mail box. I would suggest a large decorated shoe box or a large decorate paper bag. If your student does not create a valentines box then I will provide a large plastic bag.  Boxes need to be brought on the 13th. Students can bring valentines/candy to pass out. If you bring one valentine you have to bring one for everyone (28 students)! I would suggest if your student has a hard time reading the names to just put "To: classmate or friend." I will assist students if they need help but there is only one of me! We will be having root beer floats that day as well!

Hello! We had an awesome time this week! The blog is going to be long but please read all of it!

Phonics: We will be reviewing two syllable words and learning about single open syllable words like go, and we. Open syllable words have a long vowel sound rather than a short vowel sound. Please review long vowel sounds. I sent home a rapid word chart today. Please be reviewing those.

Comprehension: We will be looking at how characters change through out stories next week. I sent home the reading log today, please be reading with your child. The log is due back next Friday.

Math: We are loving the geometry unit! I will be sending home homework on Monday and Wednesday of next! Talk about 2D shapes and their attributes at home. We will be moving into 3D shapes soon! The grocery store is the perfect place to talk about different shapes!

Science: Don't forget to do your moon journal!! The websites that can help you are on previous blogs!

1/17

We have had an awesome week! We got a lot accomplished! NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY!

Phonics: We will still look at 2 syllable words. Hopefully your student has showed you how to "whale talk" the syllables out. Our class has been working on reading and spelling two syllable words as a whole. In small groups I am still working on what your student needs.

Comprehension: Next week we will be looking at character's thoughts and actions. This will incorporate some referencing on your student's part. I will be sending home a homework page but no heart words. We will continue rapid word charts next week. Just review what I have sent before.

Math: We finished our Math assessment and everyone did amazing! I am glad we took a few days to review and practice. We will be headed into our next unit. This will be a geometry unit! We will be exploring the characteristic/ attributes of different shapes. There will be no homework.

Science: We will continue our space system unit! Don't forget the moon journal. For more information or the websites to catch up see the previous blog post (just keep scrolling down).

Moral Focus: We are still working on perseverance. We have talked about using perseverance when we are tried or upset not just when something is easy.

Field trip: Our field trip is on Wednesday!! Students need to wear uniform bottoms and either a Landmark shirt or uniform top. I would send your student with some type of pullover jacket or coat. It will be pretty chilly. Put names on the tags! Your student will also need to bring a sack lunch. This means EVERYTHING can be THROWN AWAY.  I suggest putting your student's name on every individual part of the lunch just in case they fall out or get mixed up with other student's lunches. Pack afternoon snack separately  in their backpack. Chaperones need to be here at 8:40 AM ready to go. Parents if you want to meet us there you may but NO SIBLINGS. They will not be able to join us. I will send a reminder email on Tuesday with all of this.

Conferences: Sign up Spring Conferences Please remember 1 conference time per child.

1/10

Moral Focus: Your student has set a reading goal for themselves! We will work on our perseverance by practicing and trying to meet those goals. Setting goals can be a powerful thing! Try setting one at home and challenge your student to do it! Example: Have a clean room 6 out of 7 days then receive a prize. Make a quick chart to keep track of it!

Phonics: We will be going back over two syllable words for a while. This can be a hard skill. Please be reviewing heart words (rapid word charts) at home.

Comprehension: We will be looking at similarities and differences of characters in fiction texts. I am sending home homework today. The Venn diagram is a new tool that we are using. Your student still may need help sorting information into each side. Also I am sending home a Book-it form for January. This is optional. It is due on Feb. 3rd.

Math: We did not get to the assessment that was scheduled for this week. I just felt that as a whole, the class needed more practice before giving it to them. The assessment will be over the uses of a timeline and applying that knowledge to solve various problems. I will be give this assessment in small groups through out the week. I will not send homework home.

Science: Don't for get about your moon journal. This is for a grade. Students will look at the moon nightly and record the phase of the moon on the journal.  Your student should use pencil or a dark marker or crayon to color in the dark side of the moon (new moon would be completely colored, full moon would have no color). This Journal is due back on Feb. 3rd for a grade. If it is cloudy please have your student draw clouds over the moon. If you miss a day you can go to stardate.org or Farmers almanac to see what the moon was doing.

Field Trip: Over break Ms. Baldwin was able to secure another field trip on Jan 22nd! We will be going to the Arvada Preforming Arts Center and participating in some of their cultural workshops! This will give us a taste of countries around the world without the air fare 😆! I am in need of 5 chaperones so please email if you are interested! Permission slips are coming home TODAY. Money and permission slips are due back by Jan 20th. Students will need a sack lunch for the field trip on the 22nd. This means everything can be thrown away!

Jump rope for Heart: There will be flyers for this coming home in Friday folders.

Report Cards: They will be coming home today. Please sign the white folder that it comes in and return JUST THE WHITE FOLDER, not the report card.

Conferences: Sign up Spring Conferences Please remember 1 conference time per child.

Hello Families! I hope everyone had an amazing break! I know I had a very restful and relaxing 2 weeks with friends and family.

We have now entered the second semester of 1st grade! WOW! This semester we have a lot to accomplish. One of  these things is prepping for second grade. Today and tomorrow will be "1st grade behavior review." Of course, I will continue with positive behavior rewards and warnings however expectations are going to be higher this semester. Please join me in helping support your student in this matter!

Moral Focus: Perseverance! We are leading the assembly on Jan.10th! Your student will have a quick performance at the end. Power of Yet Please be practicing this at home this week.

Phonics: We will start to look at two syllable words and learn how to break them apart. In small group reading time I will review heavily what your child's needs. Please be reviewing heart words (rapid word charts) at home.

NO READING HOMEWORK.
